Advice from Manawatu Microlight Club’s CFI to Microlight fliers and others visiting the aerodrome:

• Feilding Aerodrome is used by a number of other operators: parachutists, gliders, topdressing aircraft, helicopters, warbirds and general aviators. There are more than 80 registered aircraft on the aerodrome.

• Microlighters do not have exclusive use of the aerodrome so be especially considerate towards other users.

• Feilding is located under some of the busiest and most complex controlled airspace in the country.

• Do not go above 1500ft QNH (amsl) under any circumstances. There will frequently be airliners transiting over the top as low 2000ft on their way to Ohakea and Palmerston North. All circuits and local flying should be conducted with altimeters set to Feilding's aerodrome elevation of 214ft.

Circuit Procedures

• All circuits are to the north of the aerodrome – 28 right hand and 10 left hand. Microlight circuit height is 500 feet agl (700 feet QNH). Avoid directly overflying the large yellow-domed house just to the north of the aerodrome and the house and horse paddocks immediately to the west of the aerodrome.

• On the grass vector take-off using the full length. When using Rwy 28 (seal) take-off from Rwy intersection (700m) rather than backtracking. When landing on Rwy 28 (seal) do not land short and/or exit via eastern taxiway.

• Join via a standard overhead rejoin – remember not above 1500ft QNH. Do not fly any further south than the pylons just to the south of the railway line, otherwise you will be in the Palmerston North Control Zone.

• Be extra vigilant while on the base leg prior to turning final.

• If not using the sealed runway, land as far as practical to the left, so that others can land on your right. After landing remember to make clearing turns to the left.

• Study the Ohakea charts thoroughly prior to any local flying in the Feilding Aerodrome area and ensure that any local flying is well away from the circuit area.

• Be aware there are a large number of electric power lines in the local area, especially those converging on Bunnythorpe.

• All microlight operations at Feilding must be completed 30 minutes prior to evening civil twilight.
